Interview with Susan Sarandon
Monday, January 03, 2005
I noticed yesterday there was a TV proggie on the BBC put out there as Being "religious" and "Spiritual" in content. And out of curiosity, I videoed it. Its called Heaven and Earth I have never seen such piffle, balderdash and poppycock, and open liberalism put out there as having any connection with the God of the Bible. Its six am Monday Morning and have just watched it. Susan Sarandon was on it being interviewed. I must be the only person I know to never have seen Thelma and Louise, tho I did see "Dead Man Walking" But, I transcribed the interview with S.S. And this was how it went:
SS: I'm certainly not a traditional catholic. I was raised a catholic but after examining other religions they all look so alike at basic-- its just when they become institutionalized and used for political purposes that they start to veer off into other areas.
Q: Are you a Spiritual person?
SS: Oh, yeah, I'd say I'm a spiritual person but clearly I would be considered a bad catholic for lots of reasons. My view is a broader view.
Q: Can you explain that to me? What do you actually believe?
SS: I believe in divinity of every living thing. In other words that we have to be aware and have an innate responsibility to help those less fortunate. I believe in justice and equality and in all the things that I think Christ talked about as that time when He loved those people that were outside the system."
Q: Do you believe in God?
SS: She's probably up there somewhere, you know, but she's probably in all of us. I don't think its one person up there. I think this God question is so much bigger to think that we would put on God our petty system of Heaven and Hell to me doesn't seem right. I think its a much bigger question, and that the love of God is much more forgiving. I'm certainly not a believer in a wrathful God at all.
