"Please to remember The 5th November:
Gunpowder/Treason and Plot.
We know no reason
Why Gunpowder/Treason
Should ever be forgot."
|
"The Church condenms all lying and equivocation-but-We solve that problem by simply not answering the question-works all the time(almost)!"
"Kings must Rule not the pope- Kings have the final word!Kings are right! Nothing wrong with Catholics but Catholics out to convert the country and destroy the state-That is another matter.I would have not have objected to priests who did not have a mission to convert non-Catholics."
Tis like Lebanon!!
I am not historically in toon with Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot. Tho I do have a book I've had a while, which gives a detailed account of the Gun Powder plot. And the hanging, drawing and quartering that Guy fawkes and his merry men came to for the charge of High Treason and trying to blow up the then King in 1605.
But, I am sat here, quietly, and its like being in Beiruit or Lebanon from the noise!! Not the P.A. Lebanon, the Far East one, a warzone. As fireworks are going off by the second. Loud ones. And our fireworks here are in fact made with real gunpowder, and not the fire cracker types. They are pretty to watch sometimes. And its not the aggravation it used to be when I had a dog who was terrified of them. But tis nine thirty pm. They will likely go on till one or two am. And then for weeks after, cos they are still on sale, and normally at half price after Nov 5th, kids (often legally under age to be buying them) buy them and let them off at any given moment. Maybe I'm getting old!! YIKES... Squish that thought! But tonite when most folks have there home display in the garden, or attend organized displays at local parks, its the Fire services, buisiest nite of the year for attending fires. And our hospitals are innundated with emergencies where folks who played with fire (literally) got burned. A govt of not too long ago, possibly Tony Blair and his merry men, I can't be sure, tried to get a law bought in that would "ban fireworks" except for the organized displays. To stop people getting hurt, and the fire increase of this nite. But that spoke to me of becoming even further down the road of becoming a nanny state! Who needs a govt to tell us what is safe or not? Are we so brain dead we can't work it out workselves, that if we let a rocket off, while still holding onto it, we may lose our hand? Its like when that mad guy Thomas Hamilton of about ten years ago, went into a school in Scotland, with a gun, and massacred 16 children, mostly under six, tho guns of any real kind were already illegal here, the govt then went onto ban sporting guns for shooting at targets where stringent laws were already enforced, which included air rifles, which basically could fill someone with pellets but no way on earth could it kill them. But the govt in the grief and outcry against this mad man, banned all sporting guns of any kind. And they would have been hard pushed to kill many animals let alone a man or woman. So, now the only people to have firearms of any kind, are special branches of the police and the criminals, who get them illegally anyway. Its become common place over the last five years, to hear of drive by shootings in this country, wheras before that it was not heard of hardly at all. And these guns are all illegally owned, and often there targets are innocent by-standers. A young black girl of 13 years old who was from a Christian family wtih storng morals and principles, who wouldn't hurt a flea, became one of these statistics last New Years Eve.

Power and madness
"Prudence imposes silence,
& that little dear word Silence
has so often been my friend in necessity,
that I make it my constant companion."
-- Queen Charlotte
|
Queen Charlotte was the wife of King George III of the "Madness of King George" movie fame. Helen Mirren played the role in the film. The King had porphyria and slowly but surely went mad over a period of 30 years until his death. She was the regency to the throne during his illness. Ever loyal. And the Royal House-hold was something to be proud of in those days, unlike todays Royals which for the most park have forsaken God. Charlotte gave birth to 15 children during their marriage. All bought up in the Protestant religion. King George III and the crazy calvinist share there love for God, and it seems certain we both have the gene that gives us Porphyria. Since this gene can lay dormant and never give anyone problems, but on the other hand, toxins, chemicals of any kind can trigger the faulty gene to cause serious often fatal illness, it seems likely that King George III was caused by the arsenic in his wig, (silly ole Kipper) and mine may well be caused by prescription drugs over the years. A geneticist visited me today, and it does indeed look like I have this illness. There are rare diseases and rare deseases. And this is rare to say the least. My doctor who is in her 50's has never had a patient with it before, and the geneticist told me they are really not used to testing anyone for this condition. And yes, it is likely that this desease will kill me, before most of us think of as our time, as I have dreadful physical illness with this desease, as most folks just think of "madness" because of King George, but God knows the time for all of us, and in one fell swoop He has vindicated me for over 30 years of misdiagnoses and unappropriate treatments, and of the label "crazy". As mental illness is a term not founded in the Bible. There can be phyiscal causes for a brain misfiring and that may take the form of what is known as "mental illness" but whether it be chemical imbalances, or a physical disorder such Porphyria, its NOT mental illness based solely on our mind not becoming a mind of our own. Doctors are too ready to hand out pills to zap people with, cos they show depressive symptoms. And often there symptoms are natural reactions to unusual circumstances. A person loses a loved one, we grieve. We are NOT clincally depressed. How can pills help us stop the pain of losing a loved one? For more about King George III and Queen Charlotte then Click Here

"If the soul be gracious,
the body shall be glorious."
|
This passage is a glorious promise to us. It's repeated twice because we tend to think "That doesn't quite make sense. These words are difficult to believe." No one could foresee that faith would be so important until Christ actually said, "Everyone who believes in me will have eternal life." Now Jerome, Ambrose and Cyprian all believed in Christ, yet they were executed. How do we fit this together with the promise of eternal life? When we see how people who believe in Christ cursed, condemned, exiled, even beheaded and burned, it's like having the rug pulled from under us. Christian's aren't allowed to live in peace. The promise about eternal life seems like a lie to us. If this is what eternal life means--that one is pursued--killed--then let the devil have that type of life.
But faith must close its eyes and refuse to pass judgement on what it sees or feels in the world. Believers won't become aware of eternal life until Christ raises them from the dead. meanwhile there eternal life is hidden in death. It's covered up and out of sight. But remember that as long as you live, and even when you're dying, you have forgivness. if you feel the weight of sin crushing you, you can still say, "My sins are forgiven." When your sins hunt you down, bit at you, and terrify you, you can look to Christ, put your feeble faith in him, and hold on tightly.
Martin Luther.

Do exactly as you like on the Sabbath!
And now have blagged enough during one almost sleepless nite to last a week! So, if not more blagging appears for a few days..... have already served them up!
"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock , or the sojourner who is within your gates. 1 1For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Exodus 20:8-11 |
This is an article from the Standard Bearer.
"When Ball Becomes Baal"
The above heading is within quotation marks. I cannot take credit for it. It is another man’s phrase — a certain Jim Elliff, writing an article for the Baptist Press. It is timely. It hits home.
Sports has become much of Christianity’s new “god.” Those of us living in West Michigan can verify that. Last month the Grand Rapids Press ran a three part series on Christians (of the Reformed community in particular) getting more and more involved in Sunday sports in every way — as fans, as participants, as professionals earning their living [desecrating] the Lord’s Day. The Grand Rapids community has noticed this development. The Grand Rapids Press thought it high time for the Christian community, its Reformed section in particular, to explain (and justify) itself after so long having condemned those who played on the Lord’s Day.
The same Christian churches that so recently condemned sports and recreation as a transgression of the Lord’s Holy Day, now have members out there hitting a pitching wedge to the green and trying to leg out a double with the best (worst?) of them. Professing Christians lead the Sunday hit parade. What gives? What changed? The community wonders.
The Christian "apologists" did their best to explain. According to the "apologists," the new "freedom" to “violate” the Lord’s Day has to do with Christian maturity, that is, Christians finally growing up and learning not to be so legalistic, that is, judging others by one’s own personal preference as to what one may or may not do on the Lord’s Day. Spiritual maturity means each has the right to determine for oneself what’s the best use of the Lord’s Day for one’s spiritual growth. Some evidently find arguing with an umpire over another blown call another step in their spiritual development.
In short, it appears to me what comes to light is a new insight into the Bible, in particular a passage we evidently have misinterpreted for all too long: "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, (and spiritually mature), I embraced with even greater fervor childish things and refused to put them away even on the Lord’s Day." I am sure that is what
I Corinthians 13:11 really must have meant to say.

"I cannot help wondering, at the simplicity of
those who have asserted that the two swords of the Gospel
represent, one the spiritual, the other the secular power. Yes! the
pope wields a sword of iron; it is thus he exhibits himself to
Christendom, not as a tender father, but as a formidable tyrant.
Alas! an angry God has given us the sword we longed for, and
taken away that which we despised. In no part of the world have
there been more terrible wars than among Christians......Why did
not that acute mind which discovered this fine commentary,
interpret in the same subtle manner the history of the two keys
intrusted to St. Peter, and lay it down as a doctrine of the Church,
that one key serves to open the treasures of heaven, the other the
treasures of earth?"
