WOMEN'S PRIORITIES
New research shows family holidays and home improvements arefirst to be sacrificed in women's quest for the body beautiful.With cosmetic surgery becoming increasingly popular, many areeven taking out loans to improve their figures while others dipinto their savings to fund operations. According to research for Britain's Harley Medical Group, partners and family also seemedresigned to sacrificing their own pleasure for the sake of thecosmetic enhancement of another. The study of 100 women, who had undergone a variety of cosmetic operations in the last twoyears, found that 19 per cent gave up holidays to finance thesurgery, while 12 per cent ignored home improvements. Thosehaving a nose job (rhinoplasty) were most likely to give up aholiday (33 per cent), while women wanting surgery on theirbreasts opted to take out a loan (31 per cent). Liposuctionpatients were most likely to do without home improvements (20per cent). Psychologist Dr Glenn Wilson, of the University ofLondon, said: "It's interesting to note the level of importanceattached to cosmetic surgery if household expenditure, such asholidays and home improvements, are put on hold in preferencefor funding a procedure for only one member of the household."
